Before proceeding to the registration form, it is essential that you understand the eligibility criteria and the validation process.
Eligibility criteria for the CQTS-Blais tobacco class action
To qualify for compensation under the tobacco class action, you must:
- Have been diagnosed with one of the following diseases before March 12, 2012:
- Primary lung cancer;
- Primary squamous cell cancer of the larynx, oropharynx or hypopharynx (“throat cancer”);
- Emphysema or COPD (GOLD Grades III or IV).
- Have smoked at least 87,600 cigarettes manufactured by Imperial Tobacco, RBH or JTI-MacDonald between January 1, 1950, and November 20, 1998.
- Be a resident of Quebec at the time of diagnosis and still be a resident of Quebec at this time.
Validation of the diagnosis and its date
Your eligibility will first be assessed on the basis of information obtained from the Quebec Cancer Registry or MED-ECHO.
- We will obtain diagnostic information for you from the Quebec Cancer Registry or MED-ECHO, including the diagnosis and its date.
- If the information provided by the Quebec Cancer Registry or MED-ECHO does not confirm the diagnosis, or if the diagnosis or date does not correspond to the criteria, the Proactio team will inform you at or you will receive a notice from the administrator.
- In that case, proof of diagnosis will be required to demonstrate that you meet the criteria. We will help you and direct you to the right resources to obtain the relevant medical records.
